Fly Tying: Black Flying Ant

Fly tying tutorials and patterns from

Juan Ramirez is one of the go-to fly tyer’s when it comes to hopper and terrestrial patterns. I’ve been checking out Juan and his website for quite some time, and I always enjoy his tying videos.

He recently posted up a stellar video on tying his Black Flying Ant. It’s a cool, simple pattern that should probably find a spot in your fly box this Summer.

Ants usually end up near or in the river. In some areas, the flying ants bring up the fish and offer a tasty meal for them. By having a few patterns tucked away in your box, you will be ready the next time the fish are selectively eating ants.

Be sure to check out Juan’s other videos over on his Vimeo channel.
