Perfecting the roll cast

The roll cast is one of those must-know casts in fly fishing. I fish a lot of really tight spaces and small creeks around my area, which make the typical standard cast completely impossible. I learned early on about the roll cast and set out to get really good at it, to make my days on the water much easier and more productive.

I wanted to share a couple of videos that helped me out greatly when I first started learning the roll cast. Check them out if you need a good primer on what the roll cast is, when to use it and how to properly implement it.

I’ve lost plenty of good flies and retied numerous leaders/tippet because of some of the tight spaces that I’ve tried to fish in. The roll cast makes life much easier once you get it down. Don’t leave home without it.
